I have found myself recently as my infant gets older becoming more easily angered by things, and this definitely stems from me being so independent and wanting to constantly be on the go and get stuff done and also having 3 large dogs in our home, so the nerves are touchy!
What does this have to do with kids?
Well everytime I start to get angry or find myself being very on edge I have to think to myself several things:
“I made this and I have to raise it, how do I want to raise it, and how do I want this child to act as an adult?”
“How will this child see me acting?”
“I wanted this.”
“They don’t know any better.”
“How old are they? How old are you?”
“If you were out in public how would you act?”
“If you could look back at this moment, what would you change?”
I know this is a lot to think about but when I find myself in a situation where I wouldn’t act like I should, I have to stop and think instead of act immediately because that’s when actions speak louder than words.
I want to raise a strong, wise, kind, adventurous, caring, independent, and respectful child to turn into a smart, strong willed, and loving adult!
I love my child more than anything and would do anything for him, as would most parents, but were back to the battle of heat of the moment, its hot, I’m stressed, everybody needs something from mom, and mom has work and house chores to get done, and I’ve been on my feet all day long and have had a bagel and a chocolate bar to eat in 10 hours. Its hard in those moments to stop and breathe, but if I don’t want to lash out I have to. Sometimes I just have to lock myself in my bedroom for a couple minutes to to reset.
It’s all about balance, and yes I know that’s easier said than done, but sometimes you have to stop and think, God gave me this child in a certain time to change my well being and maybe that was to slow me down. Maybe it was to make me stop and just be for a while, instead of constantly being go go go!
So just breathe and be.
