Toy Ideas For Chickens
Toy ideas for chickens can sound kind of silly but if a chicken doesnt have food or something to do, then they are just wanting to get out of the coop and explore…I mean do you blame them?
Really the whole point in a chicken “toy” is to keep them occupied in their coop or run so they don’t want to fly out and eat all of your plants around your house…not that I speak from experience or anything.
You’re not going to give your chickens legos to play with, or a little toy truck and farm mat, BUT I have some ideas that might help!
Chickens stay occupied with food (hahaha don’t we all)- they will hunt, scratch, and peck all day long- they are foragers!
Sometimes it can be as simple as sprinkling some of their food on the ground and then sprinkling some straw over top of it so that they have to dig for it. It really is the little things!

- Old bicycle tires -hang this sideways and they can sit on it as the wheel spins.
- Tree branches -just like other birds, they like to fly up and sit in the tree branches, you can also use these as perches in the summer time.
- Ladders -they like to fly and perch up on things to see, if they cannot get out of their run to do this on lower trees this is a good option to have in the coop.
- Logs -for them to hop around on, to get up off the ground.
- Stack of old tires -fill this with wood ash, sand, dirt, and diatomaceous earth for a chicken bath.
- Hanging feed pans
- Swing
- Hanging wiffle balls filled with treats
- Hanging suet bird feeders filled with treats
- Grazing frames with grass planted underneath -this is so grass will continuously grow but they can’t peck down to the root.
- Chicken feed ball toy

I have noticed that if I introduce a “toy” to the chickens the younger girls are more likely to check it out and actually use it first rather than the older girls.
