Fun Facts About Chickens

Chickens are great garden workers…no not gardeners, because they will eat all of your seed, but they can work the ground for you!

Their poop is great fertilizer, they peck the ground and eat unwanted pests, and scratch the ground which works up the soil.

When chickens lose their feathers it’s called molting -this usually starts at the head and moves down their back. They will grow in pin feathers to follow those that were lost.
Chickens grow down feathers for the winter to stay warm .

Chickens are great for getting rid of pests and diseases on trees -just don’t let them fly up to your leaves and fruits, they will eat them!

Chickens usually lay roughly 1 egg a day, every breed is different. They can lay up to 2 eggs a day in the warmer months.

If you want your chickens to be friendly, be hands on with them from the moment you get them, feed them out of your hands, sit in their coop with them, & don’t chase after them.
