How To Make Lemon Powder

Let me start by saying this is not a quick process, but it’s not a busy process, it’s a leave it and forget it!
Lemon powder to great! It is full of nutrients, flavor, color, and can be used in so many ways!

So you’ve juiced your lemons and now what?
DO NOT throw them away!!!
Did you know the rind/skin on most fruits is the most nutritious part?
So lets make use of them instead of wasting them!

I can’t use them for compost or chicken treats so we’re going to make a powder with them to add to recipes!

STEP 1

Juice your lemon & then slice it into pieces -this will make the dehydrating process go a little faster. Remember the dehydrating process is removing all liquid so the less fluid in your starting food the faster it will go.

STEP 2

Place all of the pieces in your dehydrator or on a baking sheet to go in your oven. All dehydrators are different, you can even use some air fryers on a dehydrate setting.
I set mine to 165 and let them go for about 4-6 hours. The time will fluctuate depending on how many you have and how much fluid is still in the pieces.

STEP 3

You’ll know they are done when they break in half like a chip, if they don’t just snap, they aren’t ready yet!
I have also noticed that lemons look just like oranges when they are dehydrated, so they will make an orange powder not yellow! So make sure you label your container!

STEP 4

I used a coffee grinder, but if you have a bigger batch you can use a food processor to make the powder.
Once your pieces are completely dried and ready to go, put them all in your grinder/processor and turn on until the pieces are completely a powder!
Make sure you don’t have any clumps or pieces left!

Store the powder in a LABELED airtight bag/container! I like to keep mine in the freezer because it lasts a lot longer! You can also store in a ball jar at room temp and use a ball jar sealer to suck all the moisture and air out of the jar.

You can use lemon powder in all sorts of recipes!
Put some in your drink, your desserts, spices, etc.
