Tuna Mac Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

This might sound weird, but its DELICIOUS!

I grew up eating tuna mac with peas, so occasionally I’ll add peas to it to add some color and to make it a little healthier….because a sandwich loaded with butter and cheese isn’t healthy enough hahaha!

You don’t have to add tuna if you don’t like it! Tuna is very nutritious and when you mix it with mac & cheese it doesn’t have a strong flavor to it.

I’ll also add a couple teaspoons of Old Bay Seasoning sometimes to the mac and cheese before adding it to the sandwich to add some extra flavor!

What You’ll Need

  • 2 Cups Mac Noodles
  • 2 Cups Shredded Cheese (I use colby jack, but any good meltable cheese will work)
  • 1/2 Cup Milk
  • 1 Stick Butter
  • Pinch of Salt & Pepper
  • 2 Cans Tuna
  • 8 Slices of Bread
  • 8 Slices of Cheese (I used White Cheddar for this one)

How To Make ’em

Making the tuna mac!

Put a medium pot of water on the stove on medium/high heat to boil.

Add in your mac noodles to the water and a heavy pinch of salt. Once your noodles are done (they are soft and not crunchy) then pour them into a strainer.

In that pot add in the butter. Once it’s melted add in the milk, salt & pepper, and the shredded cheese. Stir this constantly until everything is melted.

Now you can add your noodles back into that pot of cheesy goodness & add your tuna in also. Stir this until the mixture is completely combined.

Now to make the sandwiches!

Get a griddle or large skillet out and turn it on medium heat.

Butter one side of the bread slices and place the buttered side down on your griddle.

Add a slice of cheese to the bread and then pile on as much as you can fit of your tuna mac on top of the cheese slice. Add on the other slice of bread, this time with the buttered side up.

Cook for about 3-5 minutes on each side or until the cheese is melted and the bread is a nice golden brown!

Enjoy!

Notes

  • You do not have to add tuna to this, you could just make this into a mac & cheese grilled cheese sandwich ~ it’s delicious either way!
  • You could also add peas or some other hidden veggies in there to make it more on the healthier side!
