How To Make Bagels

Bagels that are better than Panera and can take under $10 to make a dozen!

These bagels are sooo easy to make and they are so so so good!
They’re light & fluffy and the perfect sweet morning treat!

I use a bread machine sometimes to make my dough, so it is an option to use one or you can just use a bowl and a towel in your warm kitchen!

Cinnamon Sugar Bagels

What You’ll Need

makes 12 bagels
Ingredients:

  • 2 Cups Water
  • 2 Tbsp Sugar
  • 2 Tsp Salt
  • 6 Cups Flour
  • 2 Tsp Active Dry Yeast
  • 1 Egg
  • Cinnamon Sugar -or any topping of your choice (optional)

How To Make ’em

Directions:

  • In a bread machine pour in the flour, sugar, salt, yeast, & water.
  • Place your bread machine on the “Dough” setting and press start.
  • Once the dough is done (usually about 1-2 hours), take the dough out and separate the dough into 12 equal sized balls. You could make mini bagels if you wanted!
  • Then take each dough ball and make a hole in the center. Make sure to make the hole bigger than you really want because when it rises and bakes it will make the hole a lot smaller. Rotate the dough so that you are creating an even circle. Place each bagel on a greased baking sheet.
  • Lay a towel over top of these and let them rise for about 1 hour.
  • In a small bowl whisk together the egg and water. Brush this mixture over top of each bagel, then sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
  • Bake at 350 for about 20 minutes.

If you don’t have a bread machine:

In a large bowl add in your warm water, yeast, and sugar, give it a little stir and let in set for about 10 minutes until it starts to foam.

Then add in your salt and flour and mix until a dough forms. Cover your bowl with a towel and place in a warm area for about an hour to let it rise.

Once it has doubled in size it is ready to go!

These are great right out of the oven with some cream cheese or you can save them for later and throw one in the toaster for breakfast!

Keep them in an airtight container in the fridge or freeze for later.

Ingredients

    Dough

    Topping

    Instructions

    1. In a bread machine pour in the flour, sugar, salt, yeast, & water.
    2. Place your bread machine on the “Dough” setting and press start.
    3. Once the dough is done (usually about 1 1/2 hours), take the dough out and separate the dough into 12 equal sized balls.
You could make mini bagels if you wanted!
    4. Then take each dough ball and make a hole in the center. Make sure to make the hole bigger than you really want it because when it rises and bakes it will expand the dough and make the hole a lot smaller. Rotate the dough so that you are creating an even circle.
Place each bagel on a greased baking sheet then cover with a towel and let them rise for about 1 hour.
    5. In a small bowl whisk the egg and then brush some over top of each bagel, then sprinkle with cinnamon sugar or any topping of your choice.
    6. Bake at 350 for about 20 minutes. The bagels should be slightly “cracked” on the top and be firm to the touch.
    7. Once they have cooled enough to touch (remember the inside will be warmer than the outside) you can slice each bagel in half with a bread knife.
Enjoy warm with some cream cheese spread!

    Notes

    • I store these in a container in the fridge for the week! You could also freeze them for future use.
